HISTORY |
Riding the best West Virginia had to offer since I was a young kid, I grew up in the woods learning the many opportunities that lie within these mountains. I started working on bikes when I was about ten years old, going out finding broken bikes in the “town dump” (a special treat we have here in WVa) and getting parts together until I could build a bike I could ride. Then I would usually break it again within a few days. Moving to Virginia in high school because the state was trying to close my school, I continued to ride through high school and then into college. In the early years I primarialy focused on group riding and touring. My passion was really just riding in large groups. I would later start racing in the West Virginia Mountain Bike circuit as a pro racer. |

Moving back to WV in 2001 to become a White Water Rafting guide I realized how much I loved this land and how much untapped biking potential was here. So I set out to get involved. Working at the local shop in town I got into the mix while continuing to educate myself in the art of cycling. In spring 2005 I graduated from Barnetts Bicycle Institute as a certified bike mechanic and also received a degree in Fit and Position. Which has driven me to keep looking at the physical side of riding as well as the mechanical. Making sure that I have all the knowledge to ride with the most efficiency and share that knowledge with others. In September 2005 I set out to open my shop. Spending the winter in Fayetteville putting the plan together and working out the details. The name Marathon Bicycle Company comes from the family company which delt in mining bits and rebuilds. For a brief History check out the link at the bottom of the page. Then in January 2006 I finally had a home for Marathon Bicycle Company. Two and a half months of hard labor renovating (which I have to say many thanks to my family for helping, especially Harvey) to make the shop I had envisioned and then getting the inventory in and ready we finally opened the doors on Friday April 28th, 2005. |
